=Zamalek can hope for the second place in their group
Doha, May 16 (QNA) - MEgyptian team El Zamalek did all they had to do against Southern Stars to remain with chances to reach the Bronze final.
El Zamalek (EGY) Southern Stars (AUS) 41:23 (22:11) Zamalek updated their account to three points with this victory and is equal with Al-Sadd from Qatar before the last match of Group B. If Al-Sadd lose against Ciudad Real the goal difference must decide for the places two and three and the participation for the bronze final. If Al-Sadd take one point they are in the Bronze final, if they win, they play for Gold. Zamalek improved their goal difference from -8 to +10 thanks to this expected clear victory.
The Southern Stars started perfect and showed their best performance at the Super Globe in the first 15 minutes. Surprisingly the Australians cheered by the Qatari supporters kept the match open and even were in lead 6:5 after 12 minutes. But after the 7:7 Zamalek woke up and started to dominate the game with a 15:4 series to the halftime score of 22:11. And the Egyptians needed a clear victory to remain in the race for the second place in the group and the Bronze Final. The Egyptian fans really made noise in the Gharaffa hall and pushed their players to the limit as they had to catch up 20 goals compared with Al-Sadd from Qatar.
After the break Southern Stars did not resigned what one would have expected, but fought brave like in the matches before. It was clear that they could not catch up to Zamalek but they showed moral and spirit. But from minute 40 on the Australians lacked power and Zamalek tried to reach easy goals by an offensive defence, which stopped the match play of the Southern Stars. If they shot on the goal, keeper Mohamed Ibrahim saved most of the shots.
And from minute 44 on Zamalek was always close to their objective the 20 goals margin, but mostly they were between 16 and 18. And when it were 19 goals, they missed three big chances. No the Egyptians have to wait for the result of the Al-Sadd Ciudad Real game.
