Iraq PM calls for enhanced security cooperation with Iran
BAGHDAD, May 17 (MNA) – Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maleki has highlighted the need for the expansion of security and military cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad.
“Security, military, and political cooperation between Iran and Iraq is essential, and we will certainly see the expansion of relations in these areas in the future,” al-Maleki told the Mehr News Agency in an exclusive interview.
“It should be examined how the two countries can work together and cooperate with the regional countries in these areas,” he said.
He went on to say that Iran and Iraq are two important countries and their cooperation will contribute to the establishment of peace and security in the region, emphasizing that the two countries’ leaders are determined to enhance bilateral relations.
“The trend of developments in the region is giving a warning signal to us that we should increase our cooperation,” he added.
