OIC should play more active role in regional developments: Iran
TEHRAN, May 17 (MNA) – The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) should play a more active role in dealing with regional developments, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Mahdi Akhoundzadeh has said.
Akhoundzadeh made the remarks in a meeting with OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu in Jeddah on Monday.
However, Akhoundzadeh thanked the OIC for its efforts to help resolve the current crises in the region.
The two sides discussed ways to expand interactions between the Islamic countries.
Akhoundzadeh said regional governments have failed to respond to the demands of their people and this has led to the interference of foreigners in regional countries’ affairs at the behest unity among Islamic nations.
Ihsanoghlu, for his part, said that nobody can stop the current trend of change in the region but certain countries have not responded to their people’s demands properly.
He also highlighted the importance of Iran’s role in social developments in the region.
