Leaders of S. Korea, Japan, China to visit quake-hit areas: sources

SEOUL, May 18 (Yonhap) -- South Korea, Japan and China have agreed on Tokyo as the venue of their annual summit slated for this weekend, but the leaders plan to pay a visit to disaster-hit regions ahead of the meeting, diplomatic sources said Wednesday. Japan has not yet announced details of the May 21-22 summit after its proposal to hold the opening ceremony in the nuclear accident-hit area of Fukushima went awry due to China's opposition. The summit will bring together South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan. "Views have converged on holding the main events in Tokyo while (the leaders) will stop over in Fukushima and Sendai," two of the hardest-hit regions in March's quake and tsunami, a source said. "There will be an official announcement from Japan soon." Sources said that the three leaders plan to visit Fukushima together, while Lee and Wen are expected to visit Sendai separately.
