Korean Red Cross to send radiation detectors to Japan

SEOUL (Yonhap) - South Korea's Red Cross said Wednesday that it will send radiation detectors and more relief supplies to the quake-stricken regions of Japan at the request of the neighboring country's government.
The Korean Red Cross said it will deliver 20 radiation detectors, 52,000 towels, 10,000 bars of soap and thousands of wet tissue boxes on a Japan Airlines flight later in the day to four northeastern prefectures that were hit hardest by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. The supplies, worth 300 million won (US$275,356), are headed for the prefectures of Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima and Yamagata, it said.
As of Friday, the Korean Red Cross said it collected more than 40 billion won in donations for the victims in Japan, of which some 38.7 billion won has already been delivered in relief aid and supplies.
