Asia Series baseball to be held in Taiwan

SEOUL, May 18 (Yonhap) -- This year's Asia Series, a continental professional baseball tournament involving top clubs of South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Australia, will take place in Taiwan starting on Nov. 25, the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) said Wednesday.
The newly launched Australian league's 2010-11 champion Perth Heat will participate in the five-day competition for the first time, replacing China, which had sent teams to the event in the past, the KBO added.
The clubs will play in a round-robin format, and the top two teams will meet in the final. Further details of the event will be worked out later, said the KBO.
The Asia Series began in 2005 with the champion teams from leagues in South Korea, Japan and Taiwan, and an all-star team from China, but the tournament was suspended for two years in 2009 and 2010 due to a sponsorship problem.
Senior officials from the countries' baseball organizations, including the KBO and Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) of Japan, met in January this year and agreed to revive the Asia Series.
