CMC an Argument for "True Democracy" in Qatar; Says Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning
Doha, May 18 (QNA) - HE the Minister of Municipality and Urban planning Sheikh Abdul Rahman Bin Khalifa Bin Abdulaziz Al Thani has affirmed that the newly elected Central Municipal Council (CMC) is an argument for "true democracy" enjoyed by the State of Qatar thanks to the wise approach adopted by HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, The Emir of Qatar, which aims at serving the nation's interest and contributing to the country's development .
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE the Minister of Municipality and Urban planning said the Law No 1 of 2011 amending some provisions of law No. 12 of 1998 regulating the CMC would have a "positive impact" on the Council's functioning and improve its performance in the coming period to meet the aspirations of the Qatari citizens.
"These amendments are to clarify and eliminate confusion over the CMC 's authorities on both horizontal and vertical relationships with the civil society and the competent authorities in the State," he continued, adding that " This would not only help the CMC to take the appropriate recommendations in line with the citizens'' needs but it would also support the long-term planning process."
HE the Minister expects the relationship between the Ministry and the CMC to enhance cooperation and integration of their mutual efforts to reach the common goal of serving the country and the citizens according to the relevant laws and regulations.
The roles of the Ministry and the Council complement each other, he continued.
In May 10, Qatari elected the 29 members of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) during the fourth municipal council elections.
