SCHOOLS IN BALIKPAPAN URGED TO INCREASE RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES
Balikpapan, Sept 6 (ANTARA) - The local office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Balikpapan has asked schools to increase religious activities for their students in the current Islamic fasting month of Ramadhan.
The head of the officie, Kusasi, said here on Saturday activities like a short-course religious lesson, Qur'an study and religious teachings had to be carried out in all schools in the town from elementary to senior high to avoid the students from being involved in negative activities.
"Following an instruction from the ministry of religious affairs the ministry's local office here has already distributed books for the course," he said.
He said the ministry has distributed circulars to five sub-districts in Balikpapan, to appeal for schools and mosques in the region to increase religious activities.
He said the ministry had also called on mosques to conduct prayers activities involving people in their neighbourhood to increase brotherhood.
"During Ramadhan the ministry of religious affairs are coordinating with youth organizations, Islamic leaders and local administration to monitor entertainment centers to assure they abide by the regulations for their activities during the holy month," he said.
