Gov't to send foreign students to tourist spots
TOKYO, May 20 Kyodo -
The Japan Tourism Agency said Friday it will send some 1,100 foreign students in Japan to tourist spots across the country, starting in July, to check facilities, including hotels and inns, and find new attractions as part of its efforts to lure back foreign tourists following the March 11 catastrophe.
The agency hopes that the students will send information via Twitter and other sites so that concerns about the effects of the earthquake-tsunami disaster and ensuing nuclear crisis will be eased among people abroad wishing to visit Japan.
Travel, lodging and other expenses will be jointly shouldered by the government and facilities that will accept the students.
To the disaster-hit Tohoku region, the agency plans to send 160 students.
The agency decided to launch the program as the number of tourists from abroad has plunged since March 11.
