Iran gearing up for resolution against U.S. rights abusers: MP
KHORRAMABAD, May 21 (MNA) -- The Iranian Parliament plans to draft a resolution against those U.S. officials who are involved in human rights abuses, senior lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi announced on Wednesday.
Boroujerdi, who is the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee chairman, made the announcement during a speech at a forum on Islamic awakening, which was held in the western city of Khorramabad, the capital of Lorestan Province.
He made the remarks after U.S. Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Howard Berman, the top Republican and Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives’ foreign affairs committee, announced on Monday that they have introduced new sanctions legislation against Iran to pressure it to give up its nuclear program and stop alleged abuses of human rights.
Boroujerdi said it is ridiculous that U.S. officials are seeking to issue a resolution against Iran for human rights abuses.
The Americans, who are inflicting the most brutal tortures on the detainees in the Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib penitentiaries, have become the self-proclaimed standard-bearers of human rights, the senior legislator noted.
Boroujerdi added, “We, as representatives of the Iranian nation in the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, are studying a list of U.S. officials involved in human rights violations… in order to issue a resolution against them.”
The parliament will also introduce these officials to the world, he stated.
“We, in the Majlis, have approved a ratification which authorizes the Judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to file a lawsuit against the United States.”
U.S. plans to throw Syria into turmoil
Commenting on the developments taking place in Syria, Boroujerdi said that the United States is making efforts to plunge Syria into turmoil.
On the differences between Egypt and Syria, he stated that Syria and Egypt are different in that Egypt used to be a mercenary country, while Syria is campaigning against the Zionist regime.
Therefore, it is normal that Iran is supporting Syria, Boroujerdi observed.
