Iranian director Rahmani to judge films at Avanca 2011
TEHRAN, May 21 (MNA) -- Iranian cineaste Mehdi Rahmani was selected as a jury member of Portugal’s Avanca Film Festival, which will be held from July 20 to 25.
Rahmani’s film “The Other” grabbed the World Premiere Prize of the festival in 2010. Starring Mohammadreza Forutan and Merila Zarei, the film narrates the journey of a young adult with a man who is soon to become his stepfather.
“The Other” by director Mehdi Rahmani grabbed the World Premiere Prize, while cinematographer Fereidun Shirdel received photography award for “When the Lemons Turned Yellow” by director Mohammadreza Vatandust.
“When the Lemons Turned Yellow” centers on an engaged couple Shahrbanu and Shahram who volunteer to help at the warfront right at the beginning of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war where Shahrbanu disappears.
For more than a decade, the Avanca Film Festival has screened significant films in different genres including animation feature films, documentaries, and experimental videos during the festival.
