S. Korea's national tax revenue grows 9.2 pct in Q1
SEOUL (Yonhap) - South Korea's national tax revenue increased over 9 percent during the first quarter from a year earlier, driven by improving economic conditions, the tax agency said Monday.
According to a report submitted to parliament by the National Tax Service (NTS), national taxes collected during the January-March period amounted to 47.62 trillion won (US$39.25 billion), up 9.2 percent from a year earlier.
The hike stemmed mostly from an increased collection of income taxes, which amounted to 9.68 trillion won, up 22.6 percent from a year earlier, the report showed.
Corporate taxes totaled 12.45 trillion won, up 15.6 percent from a year earlier, while value-added taxes rose 16.5 percent to 13.46 trillion won over the same period, the report showed.
