Ranking Chinese politician reaffirms 'blood-sealed' friendship with N. Korea

SEOUL (Yonhap) - A ranking Chinese politician reaffirmed his nation's intimate ties with North Korea during a recent visit to the communist ally, North Korea's state TV reported Monday, amid a multi-stop China tour by its leader, Kim Jong-il.
"China-North Korea relations have an invincible strength," said Chen Zongxing, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). "Our two nations are actively cooperating in many areas, including politics, the economy and culture, and our friendship is forged by blood."
China, which fought alongside North Korea during the 1950-53 Korean War, has often declared its commitment to maintaining close ties with North Korea, despite international calls to pressure the North into abandoning its nuclear weapons programs and other provocative behavior.
Chen made the remarks in an interview with the North's official Korean Central News Agency before returning home on Friday, according to the report by Pyongyang's Korean Central Television monitored in Seoul. The CPPCC is a powerful political advisory body in China.
"The revolutionaries of China's older generations and (former North Korean leader) Kim Il-sung provided the basis for our friendship in their struggle to realize their common feat," Chen was quoted as saying. "These friendly relations are developing day by day through the deep interest shown by (Chinese President) Hu Jintao and leader Kim Jong-il."
"The CPPCC will continue to work to actively contribute toward the strengthening and development of our traditional friendship," he added.
The remarks came as 69-year-old Kim Jong-il has been traveling by train since Friday along China's east coast on a trip many analysts believe is aimed at winning the ally's support for a planned power transfer to his third and youngest son, Jong-un.
