Woman spotted with N.K. leader in China possibly his wife
SEOUL (Yonhap) - North Korean leader Kim Jong-il may be traveling with one of his wives on his secretive trip across China, according to video footage Tuesday of Kim's stop in the eastern city of Nanjing.
The clip posted on the Chinese video-sharing site Youku shows the 69-year-old leader leaving his limousine to tour an electronics company in Nanjing, one of the multiple cities Kim has visited since Friday to apparently learn about China's economic reform. Kim is on his third visit to North Korea's last-remaining ally in just over a year, traveling across eastern China on a special private train.
As Kim is being escorted from his limousine to the office of Nanjing Panda Electronics Co., the video shows a middle-aged-looking woman step out from the opposite side dressed in a bright lime jacket and dark skirt. A man appearing to be an escort holds her door open and bows his head, to which the woman responds with a nod.
Her elegant appearance and the fact that she was riding in the same car as the North Korean leader suggest that she may be his fourth wife, Kim Ok. The 47-year-old former aide is believed to have accompanied her husband on his two previous trips to China in May and August last year.
Other evidence, however, suggests that the woman may be an interpreter or a member of Kim Jong-il's Chinese entourage, as she is later seen walking without any escorts.
