Lee says N. Korean leader's China visit encouraging
SEOUL, May 25 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Myung-bak said Wednesday that he positively evaluates North Korean leader Kim Jong-il's frequent visits to China, while urging the North to act more responsibly in inter-Korean affairs.
"Frequent visits to China, seeing and learning (by the North Korean leader), as well as help from the Chinese side ... Such things will bring about changes," Lee said during his meeting with his unification advisers at Cheong Wa Dae.
"During my meeting with Chinese leaders, I said I positively evaluate China's frequent invitations for North Korean leaders for the purpose of more field trips and talks."
Lee's remarks came after Kim arrived earlier on Wednesday in Beijing apparently for a summit meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao and other leaders.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao told Lee in Tokyo on Sunday that Beijing invited North Korean leader Kim to the country in an effort to help Pyongyang learn about Chinese economic development and use it for reviving the North's economy.
Lee went on to say that North Korea should act more responsibly so that the two Koreas can engage in dialogue and develop a more future-oriented relationship.
