Three major infrastructure projects inaugurated in Iran

TEHRAN, May 28 (MNA) – Three large infrastructure projects came on stream in the central Qom Province on Thursday.

The projects included the 150-km-long Qom-Garmsar highway, the Gharb Asia Steel Company and the drinking water supply facilities for the city of Qom.

The Qom-Garmsar highway cuts the distance from Qom to the holy city of Mashhad in northeast of Iran by around 100 kilometers.

The Gharb Asia Steel Company has the capacity of producing 550,000 tons of cold rolled steel plates annually.

Iranian engineers have done the primary and detailed engineering designs of the factory. It was established at the cost of 2,300 billion rials (some $230 million), of which 600 billion rials has been supplied by shareholders, 450 billion rials by Bank Sepah and the rest has been secured by the Forex Reserve Fund. The project is to create 600 direct job opportunities.

Moreover, the first phase of the drinking water supply project, transfers drinking water from Dez River in west of Iran to Qom city. The project is worth 13,000 billion rials (some $1.3 billion) and is aimed to transfer annually 141 million cubic meters of water for supplying drinking water to Qom.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attended the inauguration ceremonies.
