Auto parts maker Hyundai Mobis ranks 8th in world

SEOUL, May 29 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Mobis Co., South Korea's leading auto parts maker, ranked among the world's top 10 industry players in terms of sales for the first time in 2010, an industry report showed Sunday.
According to the report by U.S. auto magazine Automotive News, Hyundai Mobis posted revenue of US$14.43 billion last year, up 28.7 percent from the previous year, to rank as the eighth-largest among global players.
The global ranking of Hyundai Mobis, an affiliate of South Korea's top automaking group Hyundai Motor Group, was up four notches from a year earlier.
Robert Bosch GmbH topped the list with global sales of $34.57 billion, followed by Denso International with $32.85 billion, the report said.
According to the report, Hyundai Mobis made major strides in the North American market. The company became the 11th-largest supplier last year with sales of $2.74 billion, up 95 percent from a year earlier. Last year's ranking was up nine spots from 2009.
Market watchers said Hyundai Mobis's growth is attributable mainly to stellar global performances by South Korea's top automaker Hyundai Motor Co. and No. 2 industry player Kia Motors Corp., or the flagships of Hyundai Motor Group.
Hyundai Mobis supplies about 90 percent of its goods to the two South Korean auto giants, whose combined output is the world's fifth-largest.
The combined U.S. market share of Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors is expected to reach 10.9 percent for May, only behind General Motors Co.'s 21.3 percent and Ford Motor Co.'s 17.8 percent, according to a recent industry report. Their total sales in the U.S. are likely to come in at 115,434 units this month, up 43.4 percent from a year earlier.
