Kuwaiti ambassador resumes mission in Tehran

EHRAN, May 29 (MNA) -- The Kuwaiti Embassy in Tehran has announced that Kuwaiti Ambassador to Iran Majdi Ahmad Al-Thifeeri returned to Tehran on Thursday and officially started his diplomatic mission on Saturday.

Al-Thifeeri has been the head of the Kuwaiti mission to Iran since 2001, but left Tehran about two months ago after the emergence of some disagreements between Iran and Kuwait.

On April 2, Kuwait expelled three Iranian diplomats, alleging that they had links to a spy network, a claim Iran totally denied.

On April 10, Iran expelled a number of Kuwaiti diplomats in a tit-for-tat move.

But later Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi made a trip to Kuwait in a bid to clarify the misunderstandings arisen between Iran and Kuwait.

On May 18, during a press conference in Kuwait which was held after foreign minister’s meetings with Kuwaiti officials, Salehi announced that Iran and Kuwait have agreed to exchange ambassadors again.

“It was decided that the ambassadors of the two countries will return to their posts as soon as possible,” Salehi stated.

Later, Rouhollah Qahremani Chabok was appointed as the new Iranian ambassador to Kuwait and arrived in the sheikhdom to start his diplomatic mission on May 23.

It was over a year that Iran had no ambassador in Kuwait.
