Seoul shares open higher on refiners, shipyards

SEOUL, May 30 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started higher on Monday as oil refiners and shipyards gained ground, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) added 8.6 points, or 0.41 percent, to 2,108.84 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
STX Offshore & Shipbuilding jumped more than 4 percent after it announced that it clinched a US$150 million order from Greece.
But foreign investors reduced holdings of tech companies and telecom shares, limiting the KOSPI's wider advance.
The local currency was trading at 1,079.65 won to the greenback as of 9:15 a.m., up 2.35 won from Friday's close.
