QNA Launches New Website Browsable Via PDA Devices

Doha, May 30 (QNA) - Qatar News Agency (QNA) Monday launched a pioneering new website called www.qatarbroadcast.com with live streaming facility, that can be browsed through PDA devices, to enhance the dissemination of Qatari news and general programmes to a global audience through the Internet.
Speaking after the launching ceremony, QNA Director General and Qatar Media Corporation (QMC) Executive Chairman HE Sheikh Jabor bin Yusuf bin Jassim Al Thani said, "This pioneering initiative in the region by Qatar will enhance the process of disseminating news and other programme content to a global audience."
The live streaming on www.qatarbroadcast.com can be watched by devices using Mac, Windows, Apple iOs and Android operating systems. The new website is compatible with all Internet browsers and done in collaboration with the QMC. It was launched to broadcast QMC's television and radio programmes, available locally, to an international audience.
The new website currently has two television channels - Qatar Television and Al DawriWalKhass channel and six radio stations on its live streaming. The radio stations are the Holy Qu'ran, Qatar Radio (Arabic), QBS, Oryx FM, Sout Al Rayyan and Sout Al Khaleej.
This new project upgrades to live streaming the QMC's existing website www.qatarmedialive.com which has been in operation for over one year and enjoys around 100,000 visitors per month to its website, officials said. Of these visitors 32% were from Qatar, 18% from Saudi Arabia and 13% from the US and 5% each from the UK and Germany while the remaining from the rest of the world.
The project came to its fruition through the joint in-house development done by the web and graphic designers and the streaming architects from the technical departments of the QNA and the QMC.With the arrival of smartphones and handheld devices like tablets and PDAs which work on new generation operating systems like Android and Apple's iOS, technical officials felt the need to upgrade the existing streaming system and build a new website.
"One of the objectives of launching this website with live streaming facility was to incorporate it with the proposed website of the QMC," a technical department official said.
The services to be provided in the future include Video on Demand (VOD), connectivity to social networking websites, online discussion forums, schedules of television and radio programmes and summaries. This project is significant as studies show the number of people watching programmes through live streaming on the Internet is now more than conventional TV and radio audiences.
