Seoul shares open higher on steelmakers
SEOUL, May 31 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started higher Tuesday as institutional investors snapped up commodity producers and chemicals makers, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 0.53 percent, or 11.16 points, to 2,104.95 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Steelmakers gained ground with Hyundai Steel jumping more than 3 percent and industry leader POSCO adding about 1 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,075.05 won to the greenback as of 9:15 a.m., up 5.15 won from Monday's close.
