Qatar Supports Efforts of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights
Geneva, May 30 (QNA) - Qatar has reiterated its support of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem Pillay in her efforts to promote and protect human rights worldwide .. Qatar also supported the statements made by the Ambassador of Palestine on behalf of the Arab Grouping and the Ambassador of Pakistan on behalf of the Islamic grouping.
This came in Qatar's speech delivered by HE Ambassador Abdullah Falah Abdullah Al Dossary, Permanent Representative of Qatar to the Geneva-based UN office here Monday, under the second item of the agenda of the 17th meeting of the Human Rights Council, currently session in Geneva on the statement of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
HE Ambassador Al Dossary said Qatar's delegation had gone through the Higher Commissioner's statement with great interest, adding that the statement reflects, among other matters , a true picture of the developments Arab arena was witnessing and then the bold steps taken by some of these governments to respond to the demands of their peoples.
He pointed out that in this regard, that Qatar has been calling for a halt to violence, bloodshed and for ensuring the safety of these peoples and their security as well as their countries' territorial integrity and stability ..
It also emphasizes the need to seriously achieve the aspirations of Arab peoples to gain more rights, and fundamental freedoms, which guarantee the preservation of human dignity, which comes through open channels of dialogue with different segments of society, HE al Dossary said,
He said that the Arab uprising is an affirmation that justice and democracy cannot be selective and it is an indicator that the Arab world no longer accepts international double standards.
He noted in this regard that the Qatar's delegation supports the call by the High Commissioner in her statement to the need to engage governments in a comprehensive national dialogue with their people to absorb the anger .
