GM Korea sales rise 6 pct in May

SEOUL, June 1 (Yonhap) -- GM Korea Co., the South Korean unit of U.S. automaker General Motors Co., said Wednesday its sales in May rose 6 percent from a year earlier on strong demand for its new Chevrolet models launched here earlier this year.
GM Korea sold 71,497 vehicles last month, compared with 67,421 units sold in the same period last year, the company said in a statement.
Domestic sales surged 21.1 percent on-year to 12,403 units with exports also rising 3.4 percent to 59,094 units, it said.
The company said it delivered 92,169 units to overseas markets last month in complete knock-down kits that can be assembled into full automobiles.
