Qatar National Olympic Committee Delegation Arrives in Eritrea


Asmara, June 01 (QNA) - A Qatari Olympic Committee's delegation, led by the Committee's Secretary General HE Sheikh Saud bin Abdurrahman Al Thani arrived today in the Eritrean capital Asmara to participate in the opening of Asmara Stadium after being restored by the Olympic Committee.
The Committee also constructed the Qatari-Eritrean Friendship Hall attached to the stadium.
   The delegation was welcomed upon arrival at Asmara International Airport by Eritrean Sports Minister Major General Othman Ramadan, Minister of Construction Abraha Asfar and Qatar's Ambassador to Eritrea Mohamed bin Ali Al Nuaimi.
During the two-day visit the Qatari Olympic Committee delegation is accompanied by officials in charge of Asmara stadium restoration, Eritrea's Ambassador in Doha Ali Ibrahim Ahmed Eritrea's ambassador, a local media delegation and the mission of the army team which will play on Thursday a friendly match with one of the Eritrean clubs to mark the Stadium's inauguration.
   The inauguration ceremony which will be held tomorrow, will feature the cutting of traditional ribbon, the unveiling of the memorial plague, a tour of the stadium with the participation of the project's engineer and the rise to the key podium of the stadium, which will be followed by speeches to be delivered by Eritrean President Issaias Afewerki and HE Sheikh Saud bin Abdurrahman Al Thani.
   The Qatar Olympic Committee carried out the restoration of Asmara Stadium which included the maintenance of the seating area, clothes changing rooms, referees rooms, corridors and other facilities
