Seoul shares open higher on shipyards, autos

SEOUL, June 3 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started higher on Friday as investors snapped up large-cap shipyards and automakers, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) added 0.76 percent, or 16.05 points, to move to 2,130.25 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Shipyards and automakers led the KOSPI's rebound from the sharp drop in the previous session. The world's largest shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries gained more than 1 percent and Kia Motors was up nearly 2 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,075.35 won to the greenback as of 9:15 a.m., up 5.45 won from Thursday's close.
