S. Korean culture minister meets French fans of Korean pop culture

PARIS, June 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korean Culture Minister Choung Byoung-gug on Thursday met with French fans of Korean pop culture here, asking them to help promote the strengths of Korean culture across France and the rest of the world.
During his trip across Europe, Choung invited eight French fans to the Korean cultural center in Paris, including Maxime Paquet, head of a fan group called Korean Connection.

In the meeting, fans said South Korea is a unique country where the traditional and the modern aspects of culture have maintained a fine balance. Others spoke of their experience in South Korea and said they walked away with an impression that Koreans are a kind and caring people.
They were also looking forward to South Korean pop music concerts scheduled for this month. S.M. Entertainment, a talent agency, will put its major "K-pop" acts on stage here on June 10 and 11.
S.M. had earlier set up one show on June 10 at Le Zenith de Paris concert hall, which seats about 6,000 people. But after tickets were sold out in just 15 minutes and hundreds of fans rallied in front of the Louvre Museum to demand an extra show, S.M. scheduled a second show for June 11.

"Tickets were sold in such a short time, and there could easily be more than 100,000 fans of Korean pop music here," Paquet estimated.
After Paquet said Big Bang is his favorite K-pop artist, Choung told him he would try to bring the popular idol boy group to Paris for a concert.
"If you build a Korean tour program that includes visits to traditional temples and going to K-pop concerts, I will try to make your trips possible," Choung said. "Come experience our culture and promote it across France. You should also help support cultural diversity across the world."
