Seoul stocks open lower on Wall Street losses
SEOUL (Yonhap) - South Korean stocks got off to a weak start on Tuesday, mirroring overnight falls on the U.S. market, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) declined 13.37 points, or 0.63 percent, to trade at 2,100.1 in the first 15 minutes of trading, following its continued losses in the past three sessions.
The local key index loss tracked U.S share falls on Monday, when the Dow Jones industrial average shed 0.5 percent due to worries over a slowing economy due to weaker-than-expected job data for May.
Oil refiners and electronics makers led the KOSPI loss, mirroring energy share drops on Wall Street.
The local currency was trading at 1,080.5 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m., down 0.5 won from Friday's close.
