Military, police hunt for armed deserter

INJE, South Korea, June 7 (Yonhap) -- Military and police officers were hunting for an Army private first class who absconded from his frontline unit while carrying his gun, officials said Tuesday.
The 23-year-old soldier, identified only by his family name Yoon, left his post in Inje, about 165 kilometers northeast of Seoul, as of around noon, officials said.
Yoon was carrying his K-2 assault rifle, but it has not been confirmed that he was armed with live ammunition, officials said. It was not immediately clear why he deserted.
