Qatar Hails UNPFA Support for Development Efforts

New York, June 07 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has praised the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for its population s policy, approved in 2009 though deferent activities. These include the identification of mechanisms for implementing the population policy and building national capacities as effective means to encourage transfer of knowledge and promote sustainable development in the State of Qatar.
Qatar expressed appreciation for the role played by the UNPFA to support development effort; especially in the fields of justice and social progress in coordination and partnership between UNFPA and Qatar institution, particularly with the Permanent Population Committee throughout development and populations issues, HE Vice Chairman of Qatar's Permanent Population Committee Dr. Hassan Ibrahim al-Mohannadi said in a statement before the annual session of the executive board of the UN Development Programme and the UN Population Fund in New York last night.
Dr. al-Mohannadi referred to the medium and long-term cooperating agreement made between the UNFPA and the Permanent Population Committee to enhance the Qatari human capabilities thought training. This aims to promote Qatari capacities as referred by the Qatar National Development Strategy and the National Vision Furthermore.
He underlined that Qatar responds to the UNFPA support to extend its data collection, and analysis activities This is materialized by The Qatar Information Exchange (QALM) realized by the Qatar Statistics Authority. QALM provides constantly, exhaustive, updated and reliable data on population economic and social issues.
Dr. al-Mohannadi noted that Qatar pursues, with great satisfaction, the restructuring made by the UNFPA to ensure stability of financial resources and operational work, particularly in the Arab region. He highlighted the UNFPA country support to action programs implementation and integration of international conferences recommendations into national development strategies. The most important of these is the implementation of national policies and health strategies as precondition for achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
Dr. al-Mohannadi appreciated the efforts of the UNFPA in the fields of reproductive health and combating violence against women in deferent parts of the world. It is also crucial to recall the constant UNFPA support to countries for building capacities in the deferent areas of population and development and in the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
Meanwhile, Dr. al-Mohannadi noted Qatar's high appreciation for the UNDP support to development in different countries of the world This includes the role in reducing risks, related vulnerabilities and natural disaster as well as environmental protection and poverty alleviation.
