Iranian dubbers attend Annecy animation festival

TEHRAN, June 8 (MNA) -- Members of the Young Voice Actors Forum (YVAF), Iran’s first society for dubbing animated films, are currently in France to participate in the Annecy International Animated Film Festival.

A total of 42 short and nine feature-length animated films are competing in the six-day festival, which opened on June 6.

The festival is also scheduled to screen a number of TV series, advertising films and music videos.

“It’s time that talented Iranian voice actors participate in international festivals in order to upgrade their skills and the Iranian art of dubbing by furthering their connections through international events,” YVAF director Mehrdad Reissi told the Persian service of ISNA on Monday, before leaving Tehran to Annecy.

“As representative of the Iranian voice actors’ community, the YVAF will demonstrate capabilities of Iranian dubbers to the world durng the festival,” he added.

The YVAF has voiced many of the world’s acclaimed animated productions.

The institute gives an Iranian ambiance to these foreign animations, providing entertainment for television and home video.

They have used local Iranian dialects for the animations’ characters to provide additional appeal to audiences.

However, this method was abandoned in 2005 after the Iranian Azari people were outraged by an article published in the Persian daily Iran, which allegedly ridiculed the Azari dialect.
