Australia decides to participate in Yeosu Expo

SEOUL, June 10 (Yonhap) -- Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard called South Korean President Lee Myung-bak on Friday and said her country has decided to take part in next year's World Expo in the southern port city of Yeosu, the presidential spokesman said.
When Gillard visited Seoul in April, Lee asked for Australia's participation in the 2012 Yeosu Expo. The Australian leader responded at the time that she would look into the issue after taking budget matters into consideration.
On Friday, Gillard called Lee and said that Australia has decided to participate, presidential spokesman Park Jung-ha said. Lee expressed gratitude for the decision, the spokesman said.
The 93-day event will kick off in May and is expected to attract over 8 million visitors from more than 100 countries around the world, according to the organizing committee.
