Seoul shares open lower on global recovery woes

SEOUL, June 13 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks opened a tad lower on Monday as investor sentiment was weakened due to concerns about the global economic recovery, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 2.3 points, or 0.11 percent, to trade at 2,044.37 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Bank shares and oil refiners lost ground. No. 2 banking group Woori Finance Holdings fell 1.51 percent and top refiner SK Innovation lost 1.8 percent after oil prices sharply fell.
U.S. markets closed sharply lower on Friday due to concerns about an economic slowdown. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 1.42 percent and the tech-laden Nasdaq Composite Index shed 1.53 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,084.85 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m., down 2.25 won from Friday's close.
