TEHRAN, June 13 (MNA) -- Majid Sarsangi as been appointed as the new director of the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF).

Sarsangi, the former head of Tehran Municipality’s Art and Culture Organization, expressed hope that he would be able to show his gratitude for the appointment by his efforts to improve conditions at the forum.

After holding five meetings and reviewing the candidates’ qualifications, the High Council of the Iranian Artists Forum appointed Sarsangi as the head of the Forum.

Veteran actor Ezzatollah Entezami, stage artist Iraj Rad, calligrapher Gholamhossein Amirkhani, sculptor Taher Sheikholhokama, and musician Mohammad Sarir are some members of the council.

“Of course, we considered the candidates’ administrative experience as well as their cultural activities and also their viewpoints on the art world,” the head of the council Amirkhani told the Persian service of ISNA.

He said that Sarsangi has extensive experience as a cultural administrator and he has written and translated several books on culture and art, he said.

“I have some plans in mind and hope I can actualize them now that I have accepted the position,” Sarsangi told the Persian service of IRNA.

He was also the candidate for presidency of Tehran’s City Theater Complex in 2010 and was the secretary of 26th Fajr International Theater Festival.

In early June, Majid Jozani resigned from his post and his resignation was accepted by the High Council of the Iranian Artists Forum.

“Jozani’s resignation was ordered by Tehran’s Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf since he wanted to take another post in the Tehran Municipality,” Amirkhani told to media and news agencies.

The establishments of the Iranshahr Theater Complex, the cinematheque of the forum as well as equipping the IAF’s Entezami Hall are some of the projects that were accomplished during the presidency of Jozani.

Majid Jozani was appointed as head of the Iranian Artists Forum after the renowned stage artist Behruz Gharibpur resigned from the post on July 25, 2007.
