British government in no position to judge Iranian nation: MP

TEHRAN, June 13 (MNA) – Top legislator Alaeddin Boroujerdi has said that the British government has no right to make a judgment about the Iranian nation.

The lawmaker made the remarks in response to the British Foreign Office’s statement on the anniversary of 2009 Iranian presidential elections in which the Iranian government has been accused of meddling in the regional countries’ internal affairs and violating the rights of its own citizens.

“The nations should make judgments about the movements in the region and Iran, (and) not Britain which has always increased the problems facing the regional nations,” the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee chairman said on Monday.

Considering its ignominious record in meddling in the regional countries’ internal affairs, the British government has no right to make a judgment about the Iranian nation, he said.

He went on to say that the British government has had a hand in all plots hatched against the Islamic Republic of Iran over the past 30 years, so it is hated by the Iranian nation.

The British embassy in Tehran was also directly involved in the post-election unrest in Iran, he added.

Chairperson of the Majlis Human Rights Committee Zohreh Elahian has also commented on the British Foreign Office’s statement, saying, “The Majlis will give an appropriate response to Britain’s accusations and interventions.”

Britain is trying to clean up its tarnished image through manipulating the Iranian public opinion, but the Iranian people are fully aware of their ploys, she said.

The lawmaker added that the British government had better to try to resolve its internal problems and not waste its time on writing letters and issuing statements.
