FIRST 1MALAYSIA UNIFIED SALE TO RUN FROM JUNE 15 TO AUG 31

KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (Bernama) -- The 1Malaysia Unified Sale will be held from this Wednesday to Aug 31 to create stronger growth for the retail sector.

The event is one of the nine new initiatives announced under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) Update 6, announced by Prime Minister Najib Razak, here, Monday.

Najib said the effort was expected to create an annual incremental gross national income (GNI) of RM1.78 billion (US$585.092 million).

"It will offer discounts, incentives or added services in all sectors of the economy, including the service-oriented. This will create greater spill-over effect, increase tourist arrivals and spending, create more jobs and most importantly, increase business profitability," he said in his speech.

He said the 1Malaysia Unified Sale would unite the three main annual sale events into one central, coordinated event and participated by some 50 sectors and sub-sectors such as the banking, spa, housing development, telecommunication, fitness, airline, hypermarket, automotive, and health product sectors.

The project would be implemented by the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (MDTCC) and Tourism Ministry with the cooperation of the chambers of commerce and trade associations, he added.

Speaking to reporters later, MDTCC secretary-general Mohd Zain Mohd Dom said the three main sale events, namely the Grand Prix Sale, Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival and Year-End Sale, which focused more on garments and textiles would be continued.
