Comrade Nouhak Phoumsavanh passes away
(KPL) The Executive Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the Government of the Lao PDR, the Lao Front for National Construction and the Phoumsavanh family announced the death of Comrade Nouhak Phoumsavanh, one of the founders of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and also an important person of the Lao revolution.
He passed away of old age at 23:00 hours on September 9 at the age of 98. During his illness, the Party and state devoted special attention to his health and provided medical treatment both in Laos and abroad, faithfully to him till the end of his life.
To show gratitude and to mourn for his passing, the Executive Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the National Assembly, the Lao Government, and the Central Committee for the Lao Front for National Construction announced a five-day national mourning period from 10 to19 September.
On 25 November 1992, he was elected President of the Lao PDR by the extraordinary session of the second People’s Supreme Assembly (National Assembly now) and retained the post until 24 February 1998.
