Al-Arabi, Al-Rayyan in Clash for HH Emir Cup Volleyball Title


Doha, June 17 (QNA) - Al-Arabi will lock horns against Al-Rayyan in the final of the prestigious HH Emir Cup Volleyball Championship 2010-2011 to be held at Al-Rayyan sports club on Friday.
Both teams aspire to claim the prestigious titles on Friday s final, as they also keep their dreams alive to get the best team Award at the closing ceremony of sports season 2010-2011 to be held by Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) on June 21, 2011, the committee web site said .
As per the regulation of the honorees, some new standards were set to select the best team of the year. Now three teams will compete for the award including, Al-Rayyan basketball team, Al-Arabi volleyball team and Al-Rayyan volleyball team.
The QOC has unveiled recently names of winners in the sports season 2010-2011 , including the HE Sheikh Hamad bin Suhaim Al-Thani, head of board of directors of Qatar SC who was named winner of sport pioneers Award, as HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani, The Chairman of Qatar 2022 Committee was announced the sport person of the season.
Selected winners of appreciation awards that was allocated for people who served for sports development in the country including, Abdullah Al-Mostafawi, Ex-head of Al-Ahli SC board, Abdullah Yousef Al-Sulaiti, former director of sport department at GCC Secretariat General, Khalid Abdullah Al-Meer, former deputy-chairman of Qatar Association of athletics Federation and Mr. Rashid Al-Mansouri, former president of Qatar Equestrian Federation.
On the other hand, the best school Award at Schools Olympic Program was awarded to Omar bin Khattab second model school, Simaisma primary school and Hamza bin Abdulmotalb preparatory school.
Qatari High Jumper Mutaz Barsham claimed the award of athlete of the season, meanwhile Award of female athlete of the season was granted to the Qatari sprinter, Nour Hussein Al-Malki.
Captain Nasser bin Saleh Al-Attiyah was named winner of best player in mechanical sports.
The Qatar Swimming Team s coach, Abdullah Ali Salem Al-Mahmoud was selected as the best national coach, as Stanslav Zerba ( high jump coach) was announced as best professional coach.
Referees, Saleh Gumaan and Mansour Al-Suwaidi ( International handball referees) were named as the best referees of the season , meanwhile Mohammed Al-Jaidi was announced as the best athlete from special need category. (QNA)
