GOIC, UNIDO Sign Agreement to Strengthen Joint Technical Collaboration
Doha, June 22 (QNA) - The Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have signed a joint agreement on cooperation between the two parties in promoting the coordination of programs, technical support and training, to complement the memorandum of understanding signed earlier between the sides.
The agreement, which was concluded in the Austrian capital of Vienna, focuses on regional cooperation on issues of common concern and the training program targets regional needs, such as integrated projects and issues of common interest between the GCC and the needs of the organization of technical support and training.
Under the deal, UNIDO will assist the GOIC in training and supporting its capacity in providing expertise to the GCC member states. Areas of regional cooperation in the oriented technical programs necessary to support the GOIC will be identified, and these are expected to contribute to improving the effectiveness of the services provided by the member states.
Within this framework, the UNIDO will provide direct technical aid to the GOIC in capacity building that would contribute towards industrial development in the GCC countries, such as development of small and medium-sized industries, application of industrial environmental standards and raising the efficiency of industrial incubators.
The joint training programs target participants from the GCC member states. Given that just a few months remain for this year to come to an end, a partial technical cooperation program will be implemented by the UNIDO in 2011. This program will consist of two courses: the first, on measuring overall and sectorial competitiveness, which will complement the ongoing efforts of GOIC in preparing the industrial map, and the second, a workshop on financial analysis.
The Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) is a regional organization based in Doha, operating as a knowledge-based consultant to develop industries in the region through the provisioning of data, information, specialized researches, consulting and technical services to public and private sectors in the GCC countries.
