7,404 CYBERSECURITY CASES RECORDED IN FIRST HALF OF YEAR
PUTRAJAYA, July 5, (Bernama)-- There were 7,404 cyber security cases
recorded un the country in the first half of this year, which is a 147 percent
increase over the same period last year.
Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Fadillah Yusuf said
as the number of Internet users increased, issues and threats relating to cyber
security were also on the rise.
These includes incidents such as e-mail spam and scams, identity theft,
phishing, indecent content, malware and instructions as well as newer concerns
like cyber-bullying, cyber stalking and online addiction, he said.
“In 2009, the number of cyber security incidents referred to cyber security
Malaysia’s Cyber999 rose 68 percent, from 2,123 incidents in 2008 to 3,564
incidents. In 2010, that percentage increased by 127 percent from 3,564
incidents in 2009 to 8,090 total incidents,” said Fadilah.
He said this to reporters after officiating a cyber security seminar here
Tuesday.
The seminar was organised as an avenue for both legal and technical
professionals to gather and share information on their respective experiences
and expertise.
