TAPPING INTO HERBAL INDUSTRY FOR TOURISM
KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 (Bernama) -- The tourism industry should tap into
the herbal industry as an attraction for tourists to learn and explore,
says the Herbal Asia Secretariat.
In a statement Wednesday, it said Malaysia is one of the fastest emerging
destinations for medical tourism in Asia, mainly catering for Asian health
travelers.
"Among the commonly sought alternative treatments in Malaysia are herbal
remedies, which are regularised by the government to ensure their safety, detox
treatments, oxygen therapy, acupuncture and homeopathy," it said.
It added that the global herbal supplements and remedies market is forecast
to reach US$93.15 billion by 2015, spurred by increasing incidence of aging and
consumer awareness about general health and well being.
The secretariat said that there is also an increased demand for herbal and
botanical products in multi formula and combo packed format, as well as chewable
tablet.
"Women, particularly the middle-aged, form a major consumer group owing to
their growing health-consciousness, increased concern for diet, and enhanced
attention towards preventive healthcare," it said, adding, the
herbal-entrepreneur has plenty of opportunities to gain from this trend.
Therefore, these entrepreneurs are being urged to make a serious effort to
participate in the Herbal Asia 2011 trade show at the Putra World Trade Centre
(PWTC) from July 13-15.
"Expected to draw 10,000 visitors and 3,000 potential buyers from
locally and overseas, the trade show will deal with various issues related to
the herbal industry while showcasing the latest and best herbal products in the
market with business networking sessions.
"It will also be a global platform for producers, manufacturers, investors,
health and industry-related professionals to meet, exchange ideas, widen their
network and promote this rapidly growing industry," it added.
