PERMATA SENI CHOIR GROUP TO PARTICIPATE IN WORLD PEACE CHORAL FESTIVAL

KUALA TERENGGANU (Malaysia), July 7 (Bernama) -- The Permata Seni Choir Group (Jewels Choir Arts Group) is among 40 choir groups from all over the
world taking part in the World Peace Choral Festival in Vienna, Austria from
July 25 to 28.

The prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor said Malaysia's
participation in the festival was a big recognition and meaningful to the
Permata Seni Choir programme although it was introduced only one year and five
months ago.

"Although this is their first participation at the international level, I
believe the children are prepared for their performance at this prestigious
event," she told a press conference, here, Wednesday.

"As we are all aware, Austria is well known for its choir groups which are
the benchmark for others in the rest of the world, so it's not easy to get to
participate in this coming world festival."

Rosmah said the Permata Seni Choir Group would be represented by 37 children
aged eight to 11 under the guidance of conductor Syafinaz Selamat, at the Vienna
festival.


Besides showing off the singing talent of these Malaysian children, the
festival will also to used to introduce Malaysian folk songs to the
international participants and audience.

Rosmah said the group would present 10 such songs few Malay songs, besides
English songs like Hushabye Mountain, One Song, When The Saints Go Marching In,
Syncopated Clock, Fireflies and Furaha.

The officiating of the festival will be at City Hall, Vienna on July 25
and the Permata Seni Choir Group will perform at City Hall, Kursalon, Augarten
Palace, Schoenbrunn Palace, Grand Festival Hall of the University of Vienna,
United Nations and Golden Hall of Musikverein.

The World Peace Choral Festival is an annual festival organised by The
Artistic Committee of the World Peace Festival, Austria to promote universal
peace through choir performance by talented children.

Rosmah said in order to improve the Malaysian group's performance, she and
the Malaysian delegation would meet the management of the Vienna Boys Choir at
Palais Augarten to seek expertise to train the Permata Seni Choir Group.

She urged more children to join this choir group as there had been
encouraging feedback from parents of the participating children.
