MALAYSIAN DPM MUHYIDDIN LAUNCHES STANDARDS FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING
PUTRAJAYA, July 8 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia Muhyiddin
Yassin Thursday launched an initiative of the Education Ministry to improve the
quality of English Language teaching.
The Pedagogy Standards for English Language Teaching which he launched was
developed by the English Language Teaching Centre of the ministry.
"I am proud that the English Language Teaching Centre has developed the
standards and instruments to raise the quality of English Language teaching," he
said at the launch.
Muhyiddin, who is the education minister, said teachers should take the
initiative to develop their professionalism.
He said teachers should identify their strengths and emphasise on the
development of their professionalism as teachers of the English Language.
Muhyiddin said the standards would enable the teachers to evaluate their
level of competency and strive for higher standards for more positive outcome in
the classroom.
He said it was hoped that the pedagogy standards would be fully applied to
enable the teachers to identify their professional training needs and guide them
towards greater professionalism.
