KL CITY HALL CONFIDENT OF TURNING RIVERS INTO A SOURCE OF WATER
KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 (Bernama) -- The Kuala Lumpur City Hall will ensure the
quality of river water in the Klang Valley is improved to become a source of
water for the people in the near future by raising the river water quality to
Class 2B from Class 3 now.
Kuala Lumpur Mayor, Ahmad Fuad Ismail said with the achievement of
the river water quality at Class 2B will mean river water supply can be safely
used by residents for washing and bathing but not for drinking.
According to him, the objective of Class 2B river water quality is part of
the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) targeted by Kuala Lumpur City Hall. "We have
up to 2020 to realise the agenda of beautifying rivers under the River The Pulse
of Life project.
Therefore in the first three years, we need to ensure that there are
positive developments," he said when interviewed in the "Hot Seat Programme"
produced by Bernama 24 Radio Wednesday night.
On the project, Ahmad Fuad also urged the people in the country not to be
too pessimistic on the river beautification agenda by the government and instead
told them to be more proactive by giving concise ideas to achieve this
remarkable effort.
He said the authority and those responsible for the project 'River the Pulse
of Life' should be given the space and opportunity to try.
The Mayor is confident the river beautification project in the Klang Valley
would be on par with the rivers of other countries if all parties give their
full cooperation and believed in their capability.
