MALAYSIANS OFFERED REBATES ON ENERGY-EFFICIENT PRODUCTS

PUTRAJAYA, July 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysians can now enjoy rebates on
five-star
energy-efficient products, under the Sustainability Achieved Via Energy
Efficiency (SAVE) programme, said Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister
Peter Chin Fah Kui.

He said the programme included rebates of RM200 on the purchase of
refrigerator units, RM100 on air-conditioners, and RM200 per tonne of chiller
for commercial use. (US$1=RM3.01)

Chin said the rebates were the first of many initiatives to increase public
awareness of efficient energy use.

"These rebates are limited by the approved budget, and offered on a
first-come, first-serve basis, if eligibility requirements are fulfilled," he
said, while launching the SAVE programme, here, Thursday.

He said 100,000 refrigerators, 65,000 air-conditioners, and 72,000 tons of
chiller have been allocated this year.

Chin said the government has invested RM50 million in the programme.

Consumers in Peninsular Malaysia who used an average of 200-400 kilowatts
per month, for the six months from December 2010 to May 2011, and received
monthly electricity bills between RM43.60 and RM110.40, were eligible for
refrigerator rebates, he said.

Meanwhile, air-conditioner rebates were open to all consumers registered
with TNB, or living in homes registered as TNB consumers.

In Sabah, Labuan and Sarawak, all domestic consumers registered with Sabah
Electricity Sdn Bhd or Syarikat SESCO Bhd are eligible for refrigerator and
air-conditioner rebates.

For chiller rebates, applications can be submitted by owners of commercial
buildings and private companies registered in Malaysia. This can be done through
downloadable forms on www.saveenergy.gov.my.

He added that a road show will be held in six important areas, nationwide,
to inform consumers about the SAVE Programme Rebate Initiative.
