Iran wins world junior weightlifting title
TEHRAN, July 9 (MNA) -- Iran on Thursday won the World Junior Weightlifting Championship held in Penang, Malaysia.
The Iranian weightlifters clinched the championship with a total of eight gold, 6 silvers and one bronze medals, scoring 577 points.
China ended up the second with 538 points seizing seven gold medals, one silver and two bronzes.
Russia came third with 517 points. The Russians lifters claimed three gold medals, nine silvers and four bronzes.
Iran’s 85kg Kianoush Rostami was selected as the best weightlifter of the event with 451 points, followed by Russian Apti Aukadov (450 points) and his countryman Saeid Mohammadpour (439 points).
“I am very grateful to the courageous young weightlifters who claimed the world championship and made our people happy,” Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said.
The 37th Men World Junior Weightlifting Championship brought more than 150 weightlifters from 76 countries together in Malaysia.
