NAJIB ARRIVES FOR TWO-DAY VISIT TO TURKMENISTAN

ASHGABAT (Turkmenistan), July 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak arrived here Monday for a two-day official visit to further strengthen the existing close bilateral relations and cooperation between Malaysia and Turkmenistan.
Najib, accompanied by his wife Rosmah Mansor, was welcomed at the Ashgabat International Airport by Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nor Mohamed Yakcop and Malaysian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Saipul Anuar Abd Muin.
Najib's visit, his first here since becoming prime minister in April 2009, is at the invitation of Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
After the official welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace Complex, Najib is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with the Turkmenistan president, to be followed by a delegation meeting between Malaysia and Turkmenistan.
On Tuesday, Najib and Berdimuhamedov will together inaugurate the Petronas Gas Terminal in Kiyanli, Turkmenbasy, about 600km from Ashgabat.
According to Wisma Putra (Foreign Ministry), the visit represents a
continuing initiative by Malaysia to further strengthen the existing close bilateral relations with Turkmenistan.
The visit is also in line with Malaysia’s larger interest to encourage and promote meaningful cooperation and dialogue among countries in the Central Asian region.
