10 AMERICAN ZOOLOGISTS IN TOWN TO SHARE EXEPRIENCE
KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 (Bernama) -- Ten zoologists from the 'American Association of Zoos and Aquariums' (AZA) are in town to share experience and exchange information with their Malaysian counterparts.
Zoo Negara director Dr Mohamad Ngah said they would act as facilitators at a four-day workshop at Zoo Negara in Hulu Klang near here which would be attended by zoologists from the peninsula and Sabah and Sarawak.
He said the inaugural workshop would help zoo management in the country to be brought to an even higher level.
Dr Mohamad said the topics of the workshop included studbook keeping, birth control, habitat presentation techniques and population control.
He told this to reporters after the "ice breaking' ceremony for the workshop here Monday.
The visiting zoologists are the deputy director of the Henry Vitas Zoo, Winsconsin, Ronda Schwetz; Seneca Park Zoo veterinarian, Louis DiVincenti Jr; Studbook Keeper of the Orang utan Zoo, Como Park, Minnesota, Megan Elder; suprvisor of Orang utan and Breeding, Jungle Island, Miami, Linda Jacobs and Animal Management Specialist f St Louis Zoo, Kimberly Emerson.
The others are Primate Keeper of Mesker Park Zoo, Indiana, Jessica Franck; Primate Keeper of Sacramento Zoo, California, Janaine Steele; Fort Worth Zoo, Texas veterinarian Ida Lewis; Animal Management Specialist at Brookfield Zoo, Chicago, Carol Sodara; Primary Orang utan Keeper at Fort Wayne Indiana Zoo, Angie Selzer.
