YINGLUCK AMONG 142 MP'S YET TO BE ENDORSED

BANGKOK, July 13 (Bernama) – Prime minister-elect Yingluck Shinawatra is among 142 Thai Members of Parliament yet to be endorsed by the Election Commission.

EC secretary-general Suthipol Thaweechaikarn said that outgoing Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva had also not been endorsed by the commission at its meeting Tuesday night, which approved 358 MPs.

Suthipol said the EC could not endorse the 142 MPs because it was still investigating complaints against them and would continue to study their cases next week.

He did not specify the complaints against Yingluck and Abhisit.

The complaints against the MPs were generally about alleged offences committed during campaigning, including vote buying.

Under the law, the EC has until August 3 to endorse the MPs before the next Parliament represented by 500 members can convene and the new government can be formed.
