    ICAFS 2011 TO ADDRESS ISSUES OF FOOD SECURITY IN ASIA
      
      
    SINGAPORE, July 14 (Bernama) -- The first International Conference on Asian
Food Security 2011 (ICAFS 2011), to be held here from Aug 10-12, 2011, will
address various issues that have emerged from the challenges of feeding Asia in
the 21st century.    
    
    ICAFS 2011 is jointly organised by the Centre for Non-Traditional Security
Studies and the Philippines-based South-East Asian Regional Centre for Graduate
Study and Research in Agriculture.
    
    In a statement Wednesday, the Centre for Non-Traditional Security Studies
said sessions at ICAFS 2011 would focus on the scope of food security challenges
in Asia, promotion of sustainable agricultural production, ways to improve and
ensure better access to food.
    
    "It also includes health and nutrition considerations relating to food
utilisation and the impact of trade policies and investments on regional food
security," it said.
    
    The speakers include representatives from Asean, Food and Agriculture
Organisation, World Food Programme and various private entitities.
