By NG CHE YEAN
BEIJING, July 14 (Bernama) -- China is drafting a new human rights action plan for the next four years, aimed at improving the country's human rights record, a senior official with the State Council Information office said.
The National Human Rights Action Plan of China (2012-2015), the country's second working plan on human rights protection aims to expand the country's democracy, enhance the laws, improve the people's lives and safeguard human rights, according to Wang Chen, director of the State Council Information Office (SCIO).
The new plan will incorporate parts of the country's 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) and the mid-term and long-term development plans of various government departments, Wang said at an assessment meeting of the 2009-2010 plan, the country's first human rights action plan Tuesday.
He said that a joint meeting mechanism would be formed to make, implement and supervise the plan.
The SCIO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, government agencies, non
governmental organizations and research institutions will take part in the mechanism.
The Chinese government published its first working plan on human rights protection in 2009, pledging to further protect and improve the country's human rights conditions, in a holistic way.
